Toshiba Satellite Laptop {giveway}
Back in April when I did the Mother’s Day gift guide series I included a Toshiba Satellite M505D-S4000 laptop as a suggestion for the Aspiring Chef.
Thanks to Toshiba, I received my own laptop, a Toshiba Satellite M505D-S4000, for Mother’s Day. It has been an incredible asset to me in the kitchen and not just because I’m a food blogger, though it has really contributed to my productivity there as well. Our desktop is upstairs and I was constantly printing recipes to bring downstairs so I could make them. What a waste of paper! I has been wonderful to look up recipes on the internet right in the kitchen or to draft a blog post for a recipe that I’m making so I don’t forget any of the ingredients I used while creating the recipe.
Thanks the the great Toshiba Bulletin Board Software I was able to plan out all of our summer activities, appointments, deadlines and vacations without committing it to paper until I was sure what the plan was. I’ve also been using that to keep track of recipe ideas, freelancing projects, and flavor or ingredient combos I want to work on for my blog. It’s a great way to put together a virtual inspiration board.
Not only does the Bulletin Board organize my ideas and help me stay on top of my busy life, but it allows you to quickly access key utilities, programs and special offers like Toshiba Online back-up. It will give you alert messages for product updates or help you enter the support center to get the help you need.
Here are a few of the technical highlights:
- Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
- 4GB DDR2 800MHz memory
- 500GB HDD
- 14.0″ widescreen
- DVD-SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash™ drive supporting up to 11 formats
- Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel
- Wi-Fi® Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n)
- Built-in microphone, Headphone jack (stereo)
- AC Adapter
- 75W (19V 3.95A) Auto-sensing, 100-240V / 50-60Hz input
- Li-Ion Battery (4800mAh, 6-Cell), lasts up to 3.16 hours
- PC Express Slot
- 1-ExpressCard™ Slot
- S/P DIF output port (shared with headphone port), Memory Card Reader
- USB Ports: 1-eSATA/USB (2.0) combo port with Sleep and Charge, 2-USB (2.0)
- Energy Star Qualified
Our desktop is 4 1/2 years old and we’ve reformatted the hard drive at least 4 times in effort to make it last longer. But, it is slooooow. It is to the point where I can’t have more than one program open at a time, or else it will crash constantly. The laptop runs so nicely. I’m not stuck waiting for 5+ minutes while the computer downloads images from my camera and it certainly doesn’t freeze up in the process.
For me the only down points to this model have been the weight (starts at 5.16 lbs) and the touchpad. I wish the laptop was a little slimmer because then it’d be easier to slip it into my camera bag for trips and conferences. I’ve been on a desktop for so long that a touch pad is really hard for me to use and I’m much slower at it than a mouse, but that was easily solved with a $15 wireless mouse that plugs in in via the USB drive.

Hello! I'm Katie Goodman, author of GoodLife Eats Etc. where I share what I find in my life. A mix of great recipes, family memories, adventures, good reads, and anything else that I love is what you will discover here.

What a terrific giveaway! A laptop would make my life immensely easier because our (mac) desktop is ancient (as computers go – it's probably almost 8 years old) and is breaking down. My son has a laptop, but it is MAJORLY quirky and he needs it for school, so I don't get on as often as I may like or need to. This computer looks very nice!#1, having my own computer would be so easier because 3 – 4 people wouldn't all be competing for the same computer as we do now with my son's laptop.#2, laptops are always so much more convenient for their portability.Kathypass me not by at inbox dot com
Wow, it would be *fabulous* to have a laptop! Being a fellow (new) foodie blogger, I too have to hassle with running back and forth from my laptop to kitchen. Not to mention how AWESOME it would be to take my work with me wherever I go (did I just say that?)
My Toshiba laptop just kicked the bucket last month and I would love to replace it. I hate being stuck at a desk so a new laptop would greatly improve my focus.

My husband's laptop recently crashed and so we desperately need a new one!! I'm guilty of always bringing the laptop into the kitchen to look at recipes while I'm cooking- it has food stains to show for it!
I checked out the Toshiba website and they had a handy laptop finder for you to check things you were looking for in a laptop such as use, size, speed and then several choice would come up based on your needs, this is what I choose. oops original post did not work, so my posts are in reverse order..I have never had a laptop and would love one! 3 of us share a desktop and it is very tough…I also would love the freedom of not being stuck in one place while doing all the things online that I need to do…
would love a nice lightweight one for trips
My parents super old toshiba laptop just kicked the bucket. As they live in an RV, a laptop is really the only option they have for staying in touch online. I'd love to be able to replace their laptop for them!
Wow – your giveaways this week have been INSANE! I've been wanting a laptop so badly for so long. Every evening when my husband comes home from work (and on the weekends too), he uses the computer for work and games, which means I have to finish all of my work before he gets home. Having a laptop would give me so much more flexibility – I could draft blog posts, work on my etsy shop, even answer emails. And to have computer access in my studio- well, that would put me over the moon! No more printing out tutorials so I can remember the order of the steps – I could look them up and follow the instructions on the screen. Of if I take photos of my work in progress, I could edit and post them right away instead of waiting until I can get a block of computer time.ooo…. I'm crossing my fingers! I haven't wanted to win something this much for a while!
A laptop would make my life easier as a grad student so i could take it to class and take notes with it! Also, so that I can work on papers/homework in other locations other than at home at my desktop.carmencarmencooksblog at gmail dot com

I would "kill" to have a laptop/pc of my own. No more fighting with a teenager when I really need to pay bills or go online!! I could check email when I have to go out of town for a couple of days. I could use the laptop in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and even the bathroom, if I choose to. This would be a fabulous addition to my household. THANKS for the great opportunity.kkentykim.kenty@ars.usda.gov
My husband currently works from home, and we share a computer. Eventually it would be really nice for him to get an office outside the house and me get a computer so we aren't "fighting" for use of it. I am also phasing more work IN to my stay at home life, and working from my own computer would be much, much easier. This is great.

I really want/need to upgrade, but its not in the budget right now, especially with our dog who seems to constantly be getting sick/injured. Oh I dream of having a laptop someday when we can afford another computer. For now, though I have to put up with our decent PC that sits in my un-air conditioned upstairs. We have no room downstairs. So, to use it means sweltering heat right now. It would be wonderful to have a laptop to browse recipes while making dinner instead of running upstairs, printing a recipe and then running back downstairs. Plus, I mostly use the computer to read blogs, I would love to be able to read while sitting on the couch with my family. Someday, I hope…

Wow, this would be GREAT! We bought an cheap Avertec laptop when we first got married (almost six years ago), and it's soooooooo slow. It takes forever just to get the laptop to start up. My husband takes it with him when he's away training and is always complaining how the thing never works or it's just to slow that he gives up. At home we have a desktop and it's hard using the desktop with a 4 year old and 2 year old and baby on the way. The kids either want to sit on your lap, go on the computer with you, etc. This would be great for me to do college assignments on. I always have to wait until after 10pm at night when the kids finally fall asleep to do homework. It'd be so much easier and convenient with a laptop, and I'm sure I'd at least share it with my husband for when he's away training.
Maria terps1026@yahoo.comThe laptop would be great to read recipes in my kitchen and to take with me everywhere.
Thanks for the chance!

Well, this drawing may have come at just the right time – my dear husband and I have the same model of Toshiba laptop – satellites – and I am unusually hard on laptops. I use mine contantly, to track receipts and invoices for his construction business, to keep the real estate business going (when there is real estate business to be had), and to begin my new blog (I will be updating my family cookbook on my blog, once I get it running). This in addition to the usual e-mail and keeping up with other blogs as research for my own. My current computer is in the shop – thank goodness for extended warranties! I adore Toshiba computers, and am intrigued by the possibilities of netbooks, along with some of the new smaller notebooks. Thank you for the drawing, it is great to know someone will have a new Toshiba computer!

I am currently unemployed (laid off of a non-profit about a year ago) and attempting to start my own food based business. Unfortunately my laptop is on it's last leg. Great giveaway! If I were to win this laptop, I would jump for joy! Our desktop computer has just decided to blue screen permanently, and the laptop would prevent a good deal of computer squabbling at my house!
I became a fan of your blog on Facebook.
I voted for you in the mom blog contest. You are doing really well right now!
A laptop of my own…for recipes in the kitchen, net-surfing on the deck, digital scrapbooking…oh, the possibilities…
Satellite T115D-S1120 Laptop would be great since it is small enough to carry with me to school but packs enough power to do just about anything I want.
My desktop is dying, so a laptop would make my life SO much easier! It would be nice to have something more portable for home use.

Great giveaway! Ah, a laptop would be wonderful. I would be able to travel with my husband and still be able to work.
I love the Satellite C650D-BT2N11 Laptop – it is the perfect size to take with me to work or to carry around at home. My husband and I always tangling over the one laptop we have now. I need it work – he wants it to check his fantasy sports. I am sure you can see the dilemma here.
No, he does work on it too – pays bills that sort of thing.
Just doesn't help when we both want on the the same time. We get a good old glaring contest going. How long does it take for the person on the computer to notice that two holes are being drilled into them by the laser glare of the computer-less person across the room?
I also voted for you as one of Babble's Favorite Mom Food Bloggers!
And became a fan of Toshiba laptops on Facebook!
And am a fan of Goof Life Eats on Facebook!

Winning this laptop would help me tremendously, I am trying to go to school online and work from home. I have a husband and 3 girls that love playing on the computer. One is in second grade and they are starting them working on homework on the computer. So the only times I get my computer is late at night and it would be great to have another computer in the house.
