Raspberry Smoothie and Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits
This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations Courtney Sweets!
We made these Raspberry Orange Smoothies (we called them Sweetheart Smoothies for their festive color) and these tender, flaky Cinnamon Sugar Buttermilk Biscuits for a little pre-Valentine’s day treat when the kids were home from school. Such a fun treat!
I know it’s winter and it’s very cold outside, but I still love smoothies for a sweet treat or in addition to my breakfast. They are one of my favorite ways to get extra fruit in my diet this time of year when a lot of my most loved fruits aren’t in season. Enjoying flavors like this in the winter really brightens my day and for smoothies, frozen fruits work great so no need to worry about what’s in season.
Early last fall I asked all of you in a survey what kitchen appliance you were most interested in hearing a review about and the #1 answer was: BLENDER! So because it’s the month of LOVE, I thought I’d show my love for you by giving you the chance to win this super cool blender from Cuisinart.
A Few Highlights of the PowerEdge™ 1000 Watt Blender
- Large capactity, easy to read 64 oz. BPA-Free jar.
- Pre-set Programming for Smoothies, Ice Crush, etc.
- Enhanced vortex performance with better turbulent flow.

Valentine's Day Breakfast for Kids: Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits and Raspberry Orange Smoothie
Biscuits adapted from Chicken Pot Pie with Buttermilk Biscuit Crust
makes approximately 1 dozen, depending on the sizeSmoothie serves 2-4
Ingredients:
For the Biscuits:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat pastry flour)
3/4 cup cake flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
8 tablespoons salted butter, very cold - even frozen works
3/4 cup buttermilk
Cinnamon-Sugar for dipping
For the Smoothie:
2/3 cup orange juice
3/4 cup plain or vanilla Greek Yogurt
10 oz frozen raspberries
1 tablespoon milled flax
1 teaspoon honeyDirections:
For the Biscuits:
Preheat the oven to 450° F. In a medium-sized bowl, measure out the flours, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Whisk well.
Using the largest hole on a box cheese grater, grate the cold butter into the bowl. Stir the butter into the flour mixture, taking care to evenly distribute so as not to have any overly large clumps stuck together. Stir in the buttermilk until the mixture comes together and is moist.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead a few times until you can form a ball. Flatten the dough into a circle about 1/2 inch in thickness. Using a biscuit cutter, cookie cutter or a drinking glass (about 3" in diameter for the listed baking time) turned upside down, cut as many rounds as you can.
If desired, dip the tops in a cinnamon sugar mixture. Using the dough scraps, form another circle of the same thickness. Repeat cutting until you have used all the dough.
Place the biscuits on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake at 450° F for 10-12 minutes. The biscuit tops should be lightly browned. Serve immediately.
For the Smoothie:
Put all the ingredients, in the order listed, into the jar of your blender. Cover and run on the Smoothie function (if applicable, otherwise puree on high for about a minute). Once the program is complete, turn the power off and serve.
I love the sleek design of the PowerEdge™ 1000 Watt Blender and if I had space to spare, I’d definitely consider it worthy of the privileged to remain counter top at all times.
Not only is this blender attractive, but it is so much more powerful than your average counter-top blender and does a great job and blending and pureeing everything up, unlike some of the previous models I’ve owned. Who likes mystery chunks of fruit and ice in their smoothie?
Another cool aspect of this is that the jar has drainage holes in the bottom so that when you put this upside down in the dishwasher water doesn’t collect in the underside while it is getting cleaned. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve put something in the dishwasher and have had dirty water collect in crevices.
While I certainly wouldn’t consider this a “cheap” in price blender, the PowerEdge™ 1000 Watt Blender is much more moderately priced than some of the other heavy-duty blenders on the market. Consider it an investment well made. With the number of times I’ve replaced sub-par blenders in the past, I could have easily purchased one quality blender like this.
The negative for me on this blender was that it wasn’t quite powerful enough to completely puree fruit seeds, like from raspberries, and while not an issue for me personally, Logan dislikes this. My solution? I just don’t make smoothies with raspberries for him but opt for blueberries or strawberries since their seeds are much smaller.

Hello! I'm Katie Goodman, author of GoodLife Eats Etc. where I share what I find in my life. A mix of great recipes, family memories, adventures, good reads, and anything else that I love is what you will discover here.

I think the pre-set programming would be pretty cool. Plus, the design and look of it would fit wonderfully in my kitchen! (Function first, though, right?!)
[Reply]
I think this would make a great Valentine’s breakfast for adults, too!
The blender looks great… I love how much power it has. My blender has definitely seen better days and doesn’t even compare!
[Reply]
I love the design! It would fit in my tiny kitchen and look good too! Definitely love the enhanced turbulent flow for better blending!
[Reply]
I love that this has comparable power for half the price as the blender I have been eying. I also think the back light feature will come in handy.
[Reply]
I LOVE the 1000 watt power that it has. My blender has a lot less than that and has a hard time making my smoothies with frozen fruit.
[Reply]
I love the auto pre-set programming feature! That’s awesome. Your biscuits look so cute and delicious too!
[Reply]
the 1000 watts! my last blender went kaput on me b/c i blended some ice and it just couldn’t handle it!
[Reply]
The Auto Pre-Set Programming sounds great! So convenient!
[Reply]
i currently use my nona’s blender (i like to call it “vintage” but really it’s just old!). the sheer power of the cuisinart’s 1000 watts is what makes me the most excited because my VINTAGE blender is from the 70s and let’s just say it doesn’t blend like it used to. i now have to strain all my smoothies, soups and other creations to catch all the stray chunks.

I think the 1000 watts of blending power would be awesome. My wimpy little Black & Decker blender doesn’t blend too well (plus it’s dying, I think

I would be most excited about the ice crushing! My current blender is my mom’s from the 70s, with all of its avacado green glory, it does not crush ice!
[Reply]
I LOVE the preset for smoothies. We make smoothies most weekday mornings and having a high powered blender would be heavenly! I also love everything Cuisinart- so I’m sure I’d love this blender as well. Thank you- love your blog!

1000 watts of power! I need that. Besides smoothies, I like to make hummus and pesto in my blender, but those really don’t work too well. I’m thinking this blender could do it!
[Reply]

The auto preset programming for smoothies. crushed ice, and pulsing sounds outstanding. My very old blender either overdoes it or undercrushes.
[Reply]
The ice crushing setting sounds great, but although I feel a little shallow saying this, I think I just like the sleek look of it most of all.
[Reply]
the 1000 watt power would be my favorite feature! i’d love to make smoothies in half the time!
[Reply]
The pre-set programming sounds great. The “bursts of power” would do all the work for me! Thanks for doing this awesome giveaway!

There are many great sounding features – but the large capacity is probably one of my favorites. I like to blend soups, and this should help cut down on the number of batches I would have to blend. *I also really really like that the container is BPA free!
[Reply]
I love the ice crushing capability…..will make awesome smoothies and adult beverages!
[Reply]
I’m a pretty big fan of the BPA jar…and it’s nice a big!
Thanks!
[Reply]
I am looking for to the 1000 watts. The thought of not having chunks in my smoothy sounds delightful. I received another blender for Christmas a couple of years ago and thought it would be powerful enough (wasn’t cheap) but it doesn’t get that frozen fruit blended well. Ugh….
[Reply]
A smoothie setting! I actually have a cuisinart blender now, and when I attempt to make a smoothie, the ingredients just sit there and the blade spins around without mixing anything up.
[Reply]
I’m most looking forward to the Power6 Turbo-Edge™ design which enhances vortex performance with better turbulent flow. I blend with an Oster Kitchen Center from the early 80s. Now I love LOVE my Kitchen Center, but the blend option is pretty weak. There is no real turbulence, just a random blend. I’ve never had the luxury of thorough blending; there are always big chunks left over. Thank you!

My family and I are constantly using blenders in our and have a score of us 0 vs blenders 5. Most blenders we have had broke under the pressure of ice. Others have us blending, stopping opening it up stirring re blending. So I have to say that I love it has a preset smoothie function. My kids favorites around breakfast time and after school snacks. I like the idea of vortex so I do not have to stop and shift the ice around. Especially since I love making coffee drinks. I also like that it is pretty and I could leave it on my counter. I also like the large capacity, bc I normally end up haveing make 2-3 batches for our big family.

I love the holes for draining so the blender won’t get the rest of your dishes wet after running through the dishwasher!
[Reply]
I love the fact that is has 1000 Watts of blending power. My past blenders have not had near as much power & do not work effectively!

I’m excited about how powerful it is. Now all of my frozen fruit will be pureed.
[Reply]
I would love 1000 watts. My current blender doesn’t come anywhere close to that.
[Reply]
That’s one amazing blender! Although all the features impress me, I really like the Power6 Turbo-Edge™ design enhances vortex performance with better turbulent flow! No more taking off the lid and mixing the contents around so they’re all blended!

I just love the wording used..votex, turbulent.. but I am looking foward to the preset options for smoothies and ice crushes since my current blender is so boring and dull.
[Reply]
I love the smoothie option! Smoothies would be a great way to get fruits and veggies into my son’s diet!
[Reply]
“Power6 Turbo-Edge™ design enhances vortex performance with better turbulent flow”
That just sounds do COOL! But in reality I have had a lifetime of bad blenders. Seems they are never powerful enough to do what I need them to do…simple things like blend malts, chop ice, make slushy drinks, etc.
This would honestly be a dream to own something so powerful and beautiful!
[Reply]
I love the smoothie option. I also make most of my own baby food and would love to replace my OLD blender and the even OLDER food processor my mom is letting me use (over 30 years old)
[Reply]
I like how it has a back up mode
[Reply]
I like that it’s a real metal base, instead of a metal-looking plastic base. And 1000 watts!

I want the PowerEdge for the 1000 watt of blending power feature. My last pie (featured on my blog) would have been much easier to make had my blender been competent enough to crumb the graham crackers. I ended up having to do the work by hand which was painful. This blender would not only help me with my baking it would assist me in making that lovely recipe above.

I love that it has pre-programmed features for the things you will use it most for: smoothies, crushing ice and pulsing stuff. That is cool. Our blender has been sitting in the cabinet BROKEN for years. It would be awesome to get a new one. My hubby is participating in Team In Training so he can run a half marathon on May 1 and raise money for LLS. A smoothie would be the perfect snack after he works out. (I hope I win!)

I have been looking all over for a blender. I just graduated college and I am trying to get all the necessary supplies for a kitchen now that i will be on my own. 1000 watts of blending power, you can’t beat that. I would love this!
