Review: Cuisinart Elite 12 Cup Food Processor
This contest is now CLOSED. Congratulations to Denise!
I leave tomorrow morning for BlogHer Food in San Francisco. And since I’m going to be off having fun for a few days, I thought I’d leave something fun for you to do while I’m away. And it’s been a while since we’ve had a giveaway. Now sounds like a perfect time! Are you ready for a chance to win a Cuisinart Elite 12 Cup Food Processor?
I’ve been testing this food processor for about a month now. I’ve made several recipes with the Cuisinart Elite 12 Cup Food Processor so I could use all of it’s different functions and blades. Hello, lovely. Where have you been all my life? I don’t know what possessed me to think that I didn’t need a full sized food processor before. I’ve gone for almost 8 years with just the Cuisinart Mini Chopper and when that wore out the Cuisinart Elite Mini Chopper. I guess I didn’t want to sacrifice the space, and it is a spendy purchase, but wow I love this machine!
Recipes I’ve made with the Cuisinart Elite 12 Cup:
- Zucchini Cherry Muffins with Pecan Streusel Topping (chopping, and mixing muffins)
- Restaurant Style Salsa and again when I wrote about Canning Restaurant Style Salsa (chopping and puree)
- Rustic Rosemary Garlic Bread (using the dough blade)
- Open Face Roasted Vegetable Sandwiches (slicing the vegetables)
- Manicotti Primavera (fine chopping, and grating)
It seems that this food processor can do almost anything. It slices, dices, grates, chops, purees, and can make dough. Really, it’s a 2-in-1. You get a small 4 cup bowl (the size of the Mini Chopper) and a larger, full sized (12 cup) bowl. It comes with 3 blades: 1 for the small bowl, 1 for the large bowl, and a dough blade that fits the large bowl. Then there’s the grating mechanism. It has 2 sides to it: fine shred and regular. The slicing disc has several settingsΒ for different thicknesses all in one disc. That’s a great space saver because you don’t need different discs for different sized slices or grating. I really like that the bowl has a pour spout, too.
Madeline and Logan absolutely thought the slicing and grating were the coolest things ever. They helped me with theΒ Manicotti Primavera and had a blast, and helped me out a lot too. It would have taken so much longer to hand grate all of those vegetables. Instead it took 2 minutes, tops. For all of the vegetables. And the block of mozzarella – it was decimated.
The same goes for the slicing when I made the Open Face Roasted Vegetable Sandwiches. Madeline actually started eating a bunch of the sliced squash because she liked how thinly it was sliced. She’s never wanted to eat zucchini before. WIN! You can find more features here.
I hate to sound overly positive, for feature that you thing that this has to be too good to be true, but I can’t think of much that I didn’t like about the Cuisinart Elite 12 Cup Food Processor.
If I had to get picky, my concerns would be:
- Price – it’s an investment, but not outrageous
- Space – you can’t make it smaller or it’s not a full sized food processor and Cuisinart does do a good job making the attachments multi-taskers .
- The blade doesn’t lock as well as it does in the Elite Mini Chopper. It’s nice when you can tilt the bowl to the side to scrape everything out without the blade falling out with the food.
- Storage for the blades and discs. If you have kids, count on purchasing one of these Disc Storage Containers to keep little hands from getting hurt. There are a lot of sharp parts, and not really a good way to store them without the container, besides in a locked cabinet (which is where I have them now).

I really need that. The capacity is an important feature for me. I would make these Chocolate-Ameretti Tortes. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Chocolate-Amaretti-Tortes-109273 I did them once but it was really difficult with a 4 cup processor.

My favorite feature would be the slicing & dicing blades – it would save alot of time in the kitchen! My first recipe would definately be hummus because my little itty bitty food processor doesn’t have the horse power as this AWESOME food processor to acheive that creamy smooth consistency as store bought or restaurant hummus.

I love that it has different blades to use (stainless-steel slicing disc, shredding disc, chopping/mixing blades, and dough blade). The first recipe I would make is to make those mini pork eggrolls from scratch that we make at my mom’s catering business (using an old cuisinart food processor that we got from my grandmother – not sold anymore)

Great giveaway ~ thanks! My favorite feature is the fact that it’s Cuisinart. Seriously. The Cuisinart machine I used in the kitchen at work took a serious beating and still performed. Consequently, I have a lot of respect for the brand. As far as a first recipe? Maybe pesto to use up the last of the basil from my garden before the frost sets in!
Steve Capell says
My favorite feature is that it comes with two different sized bowls and we would try the whole wheat bread. We are trying to use more whole wheat products in our diet so this would be a great!

I am dying for a full-sized food processor! I’ve got a KitchenAid mini-chopper now and I LOVE it, but I could really use something heavy duty and full sized. I LOVE the grating blade – I would make zucchini brownies first with the processor – I am a girl who HATES to grate by hand! And this handy-dandy gadget would make grating a snap!

I would make hummus first…or maybe restaurant style salsa. Large batches of both even! I’ve been toughing it out with a mini chopper for years. I would definitely love not having to do my chopping and dicing in batches. And I definitely think it would be great to try the slicing and grating features. Not to mention the convenience of mixing something like pie crust or dough…The possibilities really are endless and wonderful! :o)
Ellen says
The slicing feature is a big bonus. I’d make something like apple pie or veggie lasagna.
Cat says
Oh my goodness I’d love one of these! I got married this summer and registered for one, and it was the one gift I really wanted and didn’t get. We’re hosting thanksgiving for our parents this year, so having one of these would be incredibly useful for impressing the in laws! The first recipe I’d make would be your Cardamom Citrus Coffee Cake, because all our parents love cardamom and actually put it in their coffee. I hope I win!

I love the bigger bowl and puree feature. My first recipie would be banana nut muffins and salsa. I buy a lot of fruits and vegetables and puree them to sneak them into my sons (and husbands, shhhh) food. I only have a 3 cup one now and it takes FOREVER to do the amount that I do. I would do so many more recipies if I had a bigger bowl.
Shannon says
I like that it comes with a 4 cup workbowl in addition to the 12 cup, because I’m single and most of my meals are made for one, but I also like to make pies and larger dishes for potlucks and family dinners. I think the first thing I’d make would be a Cheddar Apple Pie with that dough blade!

I need a food processor so bad! I love all the different blades this one offers. The first thing I would make is hummus (which I’ve been dying to make myself) or pastry dough to make a delicious autumn pie π

I love the size! Mine is so small I always have to split my ingredients. I would make the zucchini muffins– I love zucchini breads and muffins and yours have a fun creative twist

The first, second and third thing I would make is bread. I absolutely love fresh bread, but due to some medical problems I have trouble kneading the bread for as long as it takes to properly form gluten. However I have seen lots of recipes for making it using a food processor. I would love to try it out!
My favorite feature of Cuisinart feature, is simply its reliability! There is a reason they have been a top brand for so long. I will take quality over quantity any day!
Holly says
I love that it has a dough hook and you can make bread and do chopping and pureeing large batches instead of the small batches in the regular cuisinart.

Hummus or Pesto, yummmmm

My favorite feature would have to be the ability to make dough – I don’t own a standing mixer, so I always knead by hand – I would love to be able to do it in this food processor!!!

My food processor just broke, I am so completely sad. I have a pumpkin that is waiting to be used and I need a food processor π Maybe I can wait it out and hope I win! π All the features of this particular food processor sound great. Maybe I’ll go out and buy one (if i don’t win) Since I need a new one PRONTO.
Hope you are having fun at blogher!
Chelsea says
I don’t have one, but based on how you described the processor, I would say my favorite feature would be the different size bowls. And all the different blades! I have never had a food processor but want one so badly. I might buy this one if I don’t win. It sounds like a good one. Thanks!
Sharon says
I would love to try making bread dough in the processor. I don’t have a processor right now. It would also be great for pureeing soups since it’s Fall!!!

I too love the large capacity and I also like the different attachments. The one I have now is a glorified chopper. I would love to try making something with dough. That fascinates me that it can do that!

I love the shredding option. I will be using it for shredding cheese for pizza or maybe carrots for carrot cake!
Alison D. says
I would love to make zuccini bread!
My mother had a full sized food processor and that was one of the few things that she enjoyed baking. I loved it as a kid but have found making it with my mini processor a pain in the neck.
This would be a fabu additional to my kitchen.
Caroline Bull says
The fact that it comes with 2 different sized bowls! I’ve been waiting for this review, and if I don’t get it here, or for my birthday this month, I might have to give myself a birthday present. As for the recipe – if it has to be one of the ones you listed, probably those zucchini cherry muffins – if not, cauliflower rice will be so much easier this way!

I think the interchangeable bowls feature is the most interesting. And the first recipe I would make, sadly and boringly, would be hummus!
Kaitlin says
My favorite feature is a simple one: pureeing!
I would be crazy for that salsa, I know it π
Courtney says
Wow, I don’t actually have a food processor. I see that I’m missing out big time. I still do all of my grating and chopping by hand. This would be a life saver. I think the thing I would you the most is the grater feature. I have a really old cheese grater and never grate veggies so that would be fun. I would first make the salsa. It looked so good when you first posted the recepie, then you posted the canning recepie. I’ve never canned anything but determined to give it a try after I make yummy salsa.

The feature I like the best is the fact that it has different blades to do different things. I would be able to chop veggies much faster and take less time to prepare myself to start cooking a dish.

I love, love, love the 12 cup bowl – talk about bulk batches! With that kind of capacity I could double – in some cases triple – everything I make and I could fill my freezer!

Logan says
My favorite features are interchanging blades (and dough hook!). I would use the grater blade to make my Thai-style carrot salad that calls for several pounds of grated carrot. The regular chopping blade would be great for hummus and bean spreads. The slicing blade would be wonderful for my baked ratatouille. And the dough hook I would use to make Santa Lucia buns in December. Sounds like a wonderful machine!

Favorite feature might have to be the wide-mouth feed tube – what’s the point of having a great food processor if you have to waste time chopping *before* you put food in to be chopped? For me, the best feature is that it isn’t mini. The hardest thing for me is that the mini one IS mini, and with a family of 6, it’s not big enough most of the time.
The first thing I would make would probably be either a teriyaki stir fry or a chow mein.

The fact that this food processor has so many functions wows me. I would definitely use the slicing blade to make that open faced sandwich…i’ve been looking at it for weeks but haven’t had the chance to get around to it!

I love the two bowls, what a handy feature! As for what I would make first… I would make smooth creamy hummus, and while eating the hummus, who knows what else I could whip up! Thanks for the giveaway. Been eyeing this food processor for awhile.

Honestly, the pureeing part would be the best for me. My mini chopper is bitting the dust and won’t make my hummus smooth anymore π

My favorite feature is the size. I also have been using a mini processor or trying to use a blender, and they just don’t cut it sometimes.

The SIZE!!! I have been using a small mini-chopper and it is definitely not big enough for all of the recipes I attempt to recreate. And the dough hook… π

I like that there are different sized bowls. A lot of versatility.
If I were to get one I think the first thing I would make is a recipe that calls for a puree. I don’t even have a blender at the moment, so I would love to be able to make some pestos or soups.

I would have to say that my favorite feature would be the size. I have a 3 cup food processor which works great, but every time I use it I wish I had the bigger one.

The first recipe I would make with that food processor is definitely a bread recipe that I haven’t made for awhile because of its labor intensive nature. i’d make hummus! or salsa verde! or arugula pesto! all in larger batches. I have a teeny-tiny food processor, and now that i’m doing more preserving/storing, bigger would be super useful (wouldn’t have to do anything in batches.) also, the processor i have has one setting, so being able to do more is the feature i’m most excited about.

What I love most about the Cuisinart Elite 12 cup food processor is how it helps me feed a large hungry crowd. My husband loves football. This time of year, there seems to be endless tailgate parties to attend. I would use the shredding disk to help me shred sharp cheddar and smoked gouda for my favorite pimento cheese spread recipe. Chicago Cuisine Critique says
My favorite feature is definitely the different sized bowls, that is awesome to have! I have been desperately wanting a new food processor as I feel like it is so much easier to make all of your own sauces, dips, dressings, and of course so much more. This is one of those bigger purchases that I was leaving for when I get married (whenever that may be?) and finally register so winning one would be absolutely amazing. I think the first item I would make to help me experiment a bit with the processor would probably be a pesto sauce. I am a big fan of Giada and after watching her make it time and time again it always look so delicious and so simple with a lovely food processor. This is a great giveaway!

I love the three different blades with the option of using the smaller blade, too. I have a 4-cup processor and making soup or hummus in four different batches gets old fast. I think hummus would be the first thing I try!

Hi Katie! I LOVE that the food processor has two cup sizes — one big and one small. Much of the time I can’t use my old food processor for recipes because the ingredients don’t fit inside the cup! That said, I would definitely make a buttery pie crust for my Thanksgiving apple pie in the Cuisinart — and I could slice the apples in it, too! π

My favorite feature would be the fact that it comes with two different sized bowls. So handy! The first recipe I’d make? Hmmm. It would probably have to be bread of some sort, since the “dough blade” has me intrigued. I would never have thought to use a food processor for dough of any kind!

I don’t own a food processor anymore, I really need one but just haven’t shopped for one. This would be a step up from the one I used to own. I like the locking blade, also like that the slicing blade is adjustable. I bake for a local restaurant. ( I work full time and commute 1 hour each way) This would help me with my baking, esp. making the pastry dough. I love that it is 12 cups! This would allow me to make the dough in a double batch. I’m impressed with how it looks, also.
The Duo Dishes says
The multiple blades feature is the best. Any machine that allows you to do more than just one function is a keeper. Is it sad that the first recipe made would be hummus? Or babaghanoush? It’d be awesome to get a completely smooth dip instead of a slightly chunky one. π
