NOOK Color Review and Giveaway – Enter to Win a NOOK!

The NOOK Color Giveaway is now closed. Congratulations Kristen {comment #341} – Enjoy your new NOOK Color!

Happy Friday! You may have noticed that things are looking a little different around here. Let’s celebrate the redesign of GoodLife Eats and the new GoodLife Books section with a giveaway for a NOOK Color.

NOOK Color made all of our travel this summer so much easier. From start to finish we traveled for 3 weeks straight this past summer. As someone who can easily read 2 books a week, I knew packing 6 books, even if they were paperbacks, was just not an option. Nor did I want to risk losing any library books during our travels. An e-reader was the way to go!

I’m not the most patient person in the world. I have a hard time enjoying the “getting there” part of travel and usually end up just wishing to be there already. Books are my best friend during these times. I can get lost in a story for hours and quickly loose track of the time.

I couldn’t have survived the almost 24 hours it took us to fly to Crete without my Barnes and Noble NOOK. And the road-trip to San Diego certainly passed a lot faster with good books to read.

You may remember that I reviewed another Barnes and Noble e-reader model about a year ago. Let’s just say that you don’t know what you’re missing out on until you have it. I didn’t have any complaints about the older model, but when I started using the new model I saw all the improvements that Barnes and Noble made.

What I Love About the Barnes and Noble NOOK Color

Back-lit Full Color Display – Some people are all about the E-Ink® displays that are available on many e-reader models, but I tend to stay up with a book (or NOOK) in hand well past when Eric is heading to bed.

With the back-lit display I can read without turning the bedside lamp on and disturbing him. It’s also a lot quieter than turning pages in a book, so my reading isn’t disturbing him with light or noise while he sleeps.

Space Saver – Traveling for an extended period of time? The full color display is great for children’s picture books, games or other aps, and cookbooks that you’ll want to bring along with you in the car or on the plane.

Book Selection – With over 2 million e-books available for download (and thousands of e-books for free), I certainly had no problem finding something that I wanted to read. Plus you can download a sample of any e-book before you purchase it.

I like that the storefront on the Barnes and Noble NOOK is easy to navigate. You can save books to your wishlist so you can access them later as well as receive book recommendations based on your past purchases.

Browse the Web and Check Email – The NOOK isn’t just for reading books. Features like web capabilities and full email make this e-reader an affordable alternative to other tablet devices for internet browsing, email, and a selection of aps. The Epicurious Ap is great for any food lover. Unlike my phone, NOOK supports Adobe® Flash® Player.

Magazines – Sometimes I feel so wasteful receiving magazines via the Postal Service. I read the magazine, tear out and file away my favorite articles, photos, and recipes and toss the rest in the recycle bin. I like that Barnes and Noble offers e-magazine subscriptions, something I plan on trying next year.

Share Books with Friends – NOOK Friends™ (beta) allows you to easily swap books via LendMe™ with friends. Books can be borrowed for up to 14 days. Your friends don’t have to have a NOOK, just the software which is available for iPads, iPhones, Androids, and PCs.
