How to Make Pomegranate Sorbet (So Easy!)
This easy recipe Pomegranate Sorbet is nice and light on a hot summer day! It only contains 4 ingredients, has a refreshing tangy flavor, a vibrant magenta color, and is a naturally fat-free and dairy-free dessert. You can prepare this tangy sorbet using fresh pomegranate juice or bottled pomegranate juice.
Creating this Pomegranate Sorbet Recipe
Did you know how good Pomegranates are for you? One of the researched health benefits of pomegranates is protecting cardiovascular health, including reducing LDL (bad cholesterol)oxidation.
Eating healthy is an important form of prevention against Cardiovascular Disease, the number one killer in women. According to the American Heart Association, eating a healthy diet includes whole grains and delicious fresh fruits.
What better way to include delicious fresh fruits in your diet than with fresh pomegranates and pomegranate juice.
I recently had the opportunity to taste POM Wonderful’s 100% Pomegranate Juice (not my first time, though it has been a while). While I love to eat the pomegranate fruit, the juice alone was a little strong for me to drink in large quantities.
Instead I set out to find a delicious, but still healthy, recipe so I could enjoy the health benefits of pomegranates as well as the taste.

Tools Needed for This Recipe
You’ll need a few key kitchen tools to make this easy sorbet recipe. Here’s exactly what I recommend:
- Ice Cream Maker:Â using an ice cream maker is the easiest way to prepare this recipe for pomegranate sorbet, but I’ve also included instructions for preparing it if you don’t have this special equipment in your kitchen.
- Saucepan: you’ll need a saucepan for preparing the sorbet base
- Measuring Cups: for accurate measuring of ingredients is essential!
- Ice Cream Freezer Containers: I use these reusable containers for freezing ice cream, soups, and more. They’re incredibly durable!
- Ice Cream Scoop:Â Investing in a good-quality ice cream scoop makes all the difference. This is the one we use and love.
Ingredients for Pomegranate Sorbet
This recipe for pomegranate sorbet only takes 4 simple ingredients to prepare! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pomegranate Juice
- Water
- Sugar
- Honey
For the complete ingredient list and detailed instructions, scroll to the bottom of this post for the FREE printable recipe card.
Ingredient Adaptations
Want to make a few tweaks to this Pomegranate Sorbet recipe? Here are my suggestions:
For some extra flavor and a fun citrus element in this recipe, try adding a tablespoon or two of orange juice or lemon juice or the zest of an orange or lemon to the fruit juice.
You can also experiment with pomegranate juice blends as long as the blend doesn’t have any added sweeteners and is 100% juice. Look for pomegranate cherry juice, pomegranate blueberry juice, or pomegranate raspberry juice.
How to Make Sorbet
This sorbet recipe is really simple to make! Here’s a quick overview of the process:
- First, you’ll combine the pomegranate juice, water, sugar, and honey in a small saucepan and whisk to combine. Bring it to a boil over medium heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Then, let it cool to room temperature. After that, transfer the pomegranate mixture to the refrigerator to chill completely.
- After chilling, pour the pomegranate sorbet base into your ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
The above is simply a quick summary of this recipe. Check out the full recipe in the free printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for all the detailed instructions.
Tips for Making Homemade Sorbet
There are a few things that will make the ice cream making process even easier and will yield better results:
When preparing the pomegranate sorbet base, make sure the sugar dissolves completely while you are cooking it. If any sugar crystals remain, you could have some gritty bits in your final product.
Store the insert to your ice cream maker (if it has one) in the freezer. You’ll want it to be completely frozen solid you start churning the sorbet.
The sorbet base should be chilled until completely cold before churning. You’ll get better results when churning a cold base. Churning while warm will result in thin sorbet that melts quickly if you intend to serve it immediately.
Can I Make this Sorbet without an Ice Cream Maker?
Yes! It will be a bit more labor intensive, but you can definitely adapt the instructions. Here’s how you make this pomegranate sorbet recipe without using an ice cream maker:
- Chill the pomegranate sorbet base in the refrigerator until cold.
- Transfer it to a freezer-safe bowl, such as a stainless-steel bowl. Place the bowl on a level surface in the freezer.
- Stir the sorbet every 30 minutes until the mixture is completely frozen, about 4-6 hours.
Can I Prep This Sorbet Recipe in Advance?
Yes, you can prepare the sorbet base and chill it in the fridge for up to 2 days before you plan to churn it.
How to Serve Pomegranate Sorbet
This recipe is pretty simple to serve. You can just serve it as is in a small bowl. I love its bright color and don’t think it needs anything fancy, but you can garnish it for a fancy presentation if you like. Here are some garnish ideas:
- Fresh Mint Leaves
- Fresh Pomegranate Seeds (Pomegranate Arils)
- Dark Chocolate (related: How to Make Chocolate Curls)
Another fun way to serve this is as a cocktail! Add a small scoop to a cocktail glass and pour a few sips of champagne, rosé, or sparkling white wine over top.
How to Store Leftover Homemade Sorbet
Homemade Pomegranate is best stored in an airtight container with a piece of plastic wrap pressed on the surface of the sorbet.
Covering the sorbet surface, and then placing the lid for the container on top helps prevent the formation of ice crystals on the surface. This recipe for pomegranate sorbet will stay fresh for up to 4 weeks when stored properly in the freezer.

I have tried POM juice but not the real fruit. I bought the fruit once but its hard for me to take the juice out from the fruit with wasting it. So I just preferred the juice instead. Also, dark chocolates on POM sorbet looks really delicious. I will definitely try this at home.
Anonymous says
I have not tried POM, but the real fruit has always been a challenge to me. It seems too hard to get enough juice to make things with. We are lucky to have fresh fruit available, but I usually pass on it. With the juice, I think I may have found a new “healthy choice”. The sorbert looks amazing – especially with the dark chocolate! I need my antioxidants!

I am very excited to try this. My husband must have dessert every single night, every night and its mostly ice cream ( and its starting to show). I have tried to move him to sugar free jello with no luck, but I think he may really like something like this and it will be much better for him. I want to try it so bad, last night at the grocery store I stood there debating if I should spend the $ to get POM or not. Hope I win so I can give this a try.Valentine WB

My aunt used to give us pomegranate when we were young – it’s such a fun fruit to eat. I, too, find the juice a little strong, though. So, based on a drink you can get at Red Robin, I add pomegranate juice to limeade and throw some fresh blueberries in there too. Awesome! It also makes good vodka slush!
