We’re packing up the kids and car to spend a few days in Colorado during our upcoming Spring Break. Sounds fun, right? Unfortunately, we’ll likely be doing more work then play. Why is that, you ask? We’ll be house hunting!

Yep, that’s right. After 7 years in Albuquerque, we’ll be changing things up. I have grown quite content in our house and area (except on the windy days), so it has been a big a stress for me to think about finding a new house to call home.

Stress aside, we’re moving to Colorado this summer for 3 years. Eric has a fantastic opportunity to go back to school for a PhD that we’re not passing up.

I’m excited about an adventure in a new state as long as we can find the right place to call “home.” Send us positive vibes that we’ll find our future home and a family friendly place to settle down in for the next three years.

In the event that we have some extra playtime we’ll we are there, I’d love to hear about your favorite family friendly things to do in Colorado as well as restaurant suggestions for the Boulder area!

Have you been to Colorado? What are your favorite things to do there?

I lived in Colorado for 2.5 years while my husband completed an orthodontic residency. We lived in the Aurora/Centennial area. We loved living in the Denver Metro area. The Denver Zoo is wonderful. Another favorite is the Nature and Science museum. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is a must see as well as Red Rocks, and Rocky Mountain National park. Good luck with your move. Colorado is a wonderful place to live!

My husband and I live in Littleton and love to take day trips up to Boulder. Definitely check out The Kitchen, The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, walk Pearl Street for a little shopping and play time with the kids. Louisville and Lyons are great nearby towns to spend a little time. Enjoy!

My brother lives in Boulder. You MUST try Turley’s. It is a local place that uses very fresh, natural, healthy stuff but is SO SO yummy!

Congrats on the new adventure – sounds wonderful. We tossed around the Boulder idea once before … but decided if we did an out of state move it would be even more eastern. But, we do love Boulder. You should hit The Kitchen for breakfast, would be kid-friendly during that time of the day. Great food – we actually preferred their breakfasts more than dinner. If, you had a sitter, I would say to hit Frasca for a special evening dinner – amazing!!!!!

How exciting! Colorado is just beautiful! I live in Colorado Springs now and have lived in Fort Collins during college at CSU. Lots of things to do and see, in any season of the year. Can’t wait to hear where you’ll be settling down! I am also eager to see and hear how your high(er) altitude baking works out. I need some more help! 🙂

There could be worse places to move… CO is STUNNING. Absolutely one of my favorite places (second only to the northern part of MI)! Having recently finished my PhD, you are so right to not pass up this opportunity for your husband! My husband and I look back on our time in grad school and are so thankful for that time, the place we lived, and the people we had a chance to meet. It will be an experience, but your whole family will be blessed through this move…I can just feel it! Praying for you and your move and the housing search that is ahead.

My husband travels to Colorado for work often, so we tag along to beautiful Colorado when we can (especially when the weather is warmer than here in PA).

If you have time, take the kids to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs for amazing views and great picture ops. I even posted about the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo if you want to check out some fun photos: http://www.digicrumbs.com/2011/04/cheyenne-mountain-zoo-must-see-colorado.html

You may want to save these activities for after you move, but they are both don’t miss Colorado attractions and only about 1.5 hours from Boulder.

Sounds like an amazing opportunity and fun family adventure. Have a great time Katie! 🙂

Wave to me as you pass Colorado Springs! I’ve only been to Boulder once about 10 years ago, but it is beautiful. I imagine there’s plenty of hiking. Check out the state parks, they often have fun programs for kids. Rocky Mountain National Park isn’t far, but it’s likely still buried in snow this time of year. Denver has lots to do; museums, zoo, aquarium, botanical gardens, Six Flags, water parks, plus the Broncos, Avalanche, Nuggets, and Rockies. Rockies baseball games are a lot of fun, and they have family packs and deals often. Subscribe to the local coupon emails (groupon, living social, mamasource) for deals and ideas for other, cheaper ideas. There’s the Bolder Boulder 10k on Memorial Day. My sister-in-law and father-in-law have run it a couple times, and my husband is running it this year too. I may even run/walk it with our son. I hear it is a lot of fun for the runners and spectators. Vendors, bands, and the like. Have a good trip, and good luck! I love Colorado!

Exciting, but definitely gonna be an adventure. I am stressing out just over finishing a room in my basement and doing some re-carpeting after that. I would have a melt down with a move, so much to do. I am sure you will do great though!

The most beautiful place on Earth! I’d be more than happy to move there. Six years ago we’ve been looking for a job in USA (Work and Travel program) and after we saw photographs of how beautiful, peaceful and green (not to mention the mountains which are totally exciting) this land is, we’ve decided to set for a summer in CO. And, man, these were the times…

We’re coming back this summer for a short visit of our dear friends (and our honeymoon). CO will be only a part of the Big Trip, but I bet – the best one.

Congrats to your husband and your whole family. You’ll see, this is gonna be a real adventure there.

I lived in Boulder for 5 years and honestly, still to this day it holds a special place in my heart and every where i go – i still compare every place, thing back to Boulder. The people are warm, the town is friendly, the weather is amazing, the food-scene is great, and there are endless things to do! Anyway, your request for suggestions of places to go eat: Frasca, of course. The Kitchen [upstairs] – it is 21+ (you can go downstairs or next door if with the family). The Laughing Goat for coffee in the morning, and for a sandwich at lunch, head to dish. Happy Hour is great at Centro, and the West End – the vibe and upstairs bar has an excellent menu and is my personal favorite. All in all, there is a great place to go eat for whatever your appetite might be. Good luck and enjoy. I’m jealous but cheering you and your family on.

How exciting! I have lived in Colorado for the past 9 years and absolutely love it. Some of my favorite restaurants in Boulder are The Kitchen, The Med, Jax Fish House and Lucille’s(for breakfast). Take a stroll along the Pearl Street Mall, hike around Chautauqua Park or take a tour of the Celestial Seasonings Factory (there are tea samples too). Outside of Boulder there is also the Butterfly Pavilion, which is a favorite for us. Best wishes finding a home!

At least you will be semi-close to visit! We LOVED everything about Colorado but we lived in Durango. Some of my favorite bloggers live in Denver / Boulder area, so you will have a huge blogger community welcoming you! Good luck with the move, and enjoy it – because while it is stressful and sometimes even scary, you will gain so much for changing the scenery!! We are still in transit in our move to Sweden, but making the best of every moment.. we are getting our house in April, so we decided to go to Italy for two weeks this month – – – gotta love making lemonade out of life’s lemons 😉
