My Kids Love These Popsicles Even Though There’s No Sugar in Them!
Now that school is out, I’m realizing once again that I need to keep my kitchen well-stocked with healthy snacks for my kids. We spend a lot of time swimming and that means my family is ravenous when we get home.
For several years, I’ve relied on smoothies for a quick, slurp-able snack. It’s one way I know my kids are getting more fruit (and even veggies!) into their day. But a few summers ago I started turning our smoothies into popsicles, and these blueberry yogurt popsicles have become a new favorite!
Here’s why you’ll love these popsicles too:
✔ No Refined Sugar: Store-bought popsicles are loaded with sugar, and while I’ve no problem serving them to my kids as an occasional treat I much prefer giving them these homemade popsicles made with real fruit.
✔ Fresh or Frozen Blueberries: You can use whatever you have on hand to make the popsicle mixture, and I love the flexibility this gives me!
✔ Bold Blueberry Flavor: You don’t really taste the banana in this recipe, it’s there mostly for sweetening purposes. The blueberry flavor really shines!
Enjoy!

Special Tools You’ll Need
- Popsicle Mold — This is my favorite popsicle mold, but any option is fine. The mold I’ve linked has a classic shape and you can make 10 popsicles at a time.
- Wooden Sticks — I suggest looking for food grade wooden popsicle sticks since you’ll be using these for popsicles, not crafts.
- High-Speed Blender — I love our high speed blender! It works really well for blending just about anything. It’s 10 years old and still going strong.
Katie’s Tip: If you don’t have a popsicle mold, small paper cups (3 ounce size is best) with a wooden popsicle stick placed in the middle will do just fine. Kids don’t care one way or another, trust me!

The 3 Ingredients You’ll Need
This recipe is so easy because it only has 3 ingredients, and don’t worry! None of them are fancy or speciality ingredients that are difficult to find.
- Blueberries — You can use fresh blueberries with just as great results, but I prefer to use frozen blueberries. Using frozen fruit creates a colder popsicle base, which helps the popsicles freeze faster!
- Vanilla Yogurt — I prefer to use vanilla Greek yogurt because it is thicker and has higher protein content than traditional yogurt. The yogurt does contain a little added evaporated cane juice, but otherwise these popsicles get their sweetness from ripe fruit.
- Frozen Bananas — I peel any extra bananas we have or bananas that have gotten ripe too fast, then I put the bananas in a bag that I keep in the freezer. Here’s how I like to freeze bananas.
Katie’s Tip: If you have fresh blueberries or like to pick wild blueberries during the summer, you can always freeze them yourself. Learn how to freeze blueberries to extend the life of your berries.

How to Make Blueberry Popsicles at Home
- Puree until smooth. Add everything to a blender and blend until very smooth.
- Pour into the popsicle molds. This recipe makes roughly 6 popsicles. Leave 1/4-inch headspace since the mixture will expand when frozen.
- Freeze until hard. Since I used frozen blueberries, my popsicles frozen in about 3 hours. If you used fresh blueberries, it could take closer to 5 hours.
- Remove from the molds, then serve. I usually have to run my popsicle mold under warm tap water to loosen the popsicles and make them easy to remove.
Katie’s Tip: Cover the tops of the popsicle molds with a piece of foil and insert the popsicle stick if yours doesn’t have a lid that the sticks thread through. This will help keep the popsicle sticks centered!

Ways to Customize Your Popsicles
There are so many different ways you could make these blueberry popsicles! Here are a few ideas to try:
- Like some citrus zing in your popsicles? Try adding lemon juice or lemon zest to the blueberry mixture.
- Use full-fat Greek Yogurt for a nice thick texture. Plain yogurt will work, too, if you’re watching your sugar intake.
- Try adding chia seeds to the blender when puréeing the ingredients. They’re very nutritious!
- Want more protein? Try adding your favorite protein powder (vanilla or plain is best) or some collagen powder.
- Adjust the sweetness level to your liking. Want it sweeter? Try adding a bit of honey or some monkfruit sweetener.
- Swap out the blueberries for any other berries that you prefer, or try a mix of different berries. You can also use peaches, apricots, or cherries all work great! Really, any ripe fruit is perfect.

I’ve got lots of frozen desserts in my recipe archives, but my kids especially love my homemade popsicles because they’re so easy to grab out of the freezer and eat right away.

Blueberry Popsicles Recipe
Naturally sweeteted blueberry popsicles made with blueberries, yogurt, and banana are essentially your favorite smoothie, in popsicle form!
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups frozen blueberries (fresh works too)
- 1 cup vanilla yogurt
- 1 large ripe banana, peeled
Instructions
- Place the blueberries, banana, and yogurt in a blender. Secure the lid and puree until completely smooth. Add a small amount of liquid (water, orange juice, milk, etc), if needed, to blend well. Make sure there are no chunks remaining.
- Pour the blueberry mixture into popsicle molds, leaving about 1/4-inch space at the top.
- Cover the popsicle molds with foil (or the lid, if yours comes with one). Insert the sticks into the center of each popsicle.
- Transfer the popsicle mold to the freezer and freeze until the popsicle mixture is frozen solid. Freezing will take at least 3 hours.
- To serve, briefly dip the molds into warm water to help loosen them and gently pull on the stick to release the pops from the mold.
Notes
How to Store the Popsicles
- Prepare popsicles according to the recipe instructions.
- Remove the popsicles from the mold, if you are using one.
- If the popsicles are slightly softened after removing, (this can happen if you had to run warm water on the outsides of the mold), place them on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet or other freezer-safe flat surface.
- Re-freeze the popsicles until they are completely hard again.
- After that, remove the popsicles from the freezer safe sheet and place them in a freezer zip top bag that has been labeled with the flavor and the date.
