Green Smoothie Bowl

We made it through the holidays…phew! But if you’re anything like me, then you’re feeling a serious need to detox.

I feel like from mid-November until late-December, our world revolves around food. We have Thanksgiving, where it’s a day dedicated to eating until we burst. And then there’s all those holiday parties. Then, it’s Christmas.

And after Christmas is over, my body needs a little break.

I’ve done a few cleanses over the years, and while I do see the results if I followed it to a T, they’re really challenging. Yes, they’re probably amazing for your system, but it’s something you really need to commit to. And usually for a few weeks. It doesn’t seem like that much time, but while you’re doing it…it’s tough!

So rather than doing a full-blown cleanse, I think I’ll just turn back to the good stuff. The green stuff.

I’ve noticed that, at least with my body, if I start incorporating more and more greens into my diet, then I see changes. Not necessarily losing weight, but feeling healthier, more regular and overall like a weight has been lifted. (And to be honest, I think it’s a combination of more greens and less sugar – holidays = sugar coma)

Lunch and dinner are easy. I just choose to eat more salads, or make collard wraps instead of sandwiches. Little swaps that really aren’t that hard to make. But breakfast? That’s where it gets harder.

I’m a total sweets person when it comes to breakfast. Give me pancakes or a muffin over eggs any day. So when you’re trying to eat more greens, that sweet tooth of mine is hard to cure.

But once I started eating green smoothies, my world completely changed. Green smoothies are the absolute perfect meal. They’re loaded with fruits and veggies, you can add things like healthy nuts, protein and fiber to them, they’re easy to drink and truly, they taste delicious! Plus when you eat it out of a bowl (like with this Green Smoothie Bowl), it’s almost like you’re having green oatmeal!

So I wanted to share my absolute favorite green smoothie with you today. I make this when I’m feeling the need for a little detox and always feel like I have more energy throughout the day. The taste is very mild and you know when you’re drinking that green liquid, you’re fueling your body and giving your system what it needs – pure nutrients.
