Strawberry Swirl Frozen Yogurt
Now that it’s summer, I prefer no-bake desserts like this strawberry swirl frozen yogurt. If you’ve never made homemade frozen yogurt, you’re in for a treat. Not only does homemade frozen yogurt taste much better than the kind from the mall, but it’s significantly cheaper and relatively healthy.
I used full-fat plain Greek yogurt here and I strongly encourage you to do the same. Fat-free or even low-fat yogurt will yield some unpleasantly icy frozen yogurt. I also added some cream to see if it would result in creamier frozen yogurt. And it did! Feel free to use more Greek yogurt in place of the cream.
If you only have flavored yogurt on hand, you can certainly use that but keep in mind that you’ll need very little, if any, added sugar. Mix everything except the sugar together and only start adding sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until the yogurt is sweet enough for your liking. This recipe for homemade strawberry frozen yogurt is sweet without being overly sweet and has a nice tang to it.

I used strawberries here because they’re easy to mash and they go well with honey, but feel free to use any type of fruit. You can even leave the fruit out if you like. There’s just a hint of honey and it doesn’t distract from the strawberry flavor at all, but you can also use granulated sugar if you prefer.
This homemade frozen yogurt will be creamier if you use an ice cream maker, but you can also mix it together and let it freeze for about two hours, stirring after every 20 minutes. If you don’t stir it regularly, the center won’t freeze and the yogurt around the edge of the container will get too hard.
I’ve made a good deal of different frozen yogurt recipes and the one thing that’s always the same is that they freeze extremely hard. After four to six hours in the freezer, you’ll need to let the yogurt thaw a bit before enjoying.
If you’re patient, you can let it sit at room temperature but I prefer to microwave (provided that your container is microwave safe!) the yogurt at half power for 10 – 20 seconds or until I can break off a nice chunk. Then I put this in a separate bowl to continue defrosting and freeze the rest.

- 1 1/2 cup strawberries, pureed or mashed
