I have been dragging all week. I was fighting a cold at the beginning of the week, didn’t sleep well for a couple of days, and had more things on my to-do list than I typically like. When I have days like that, I totally rely on nutrient-rich afternoon snacks.

When I’m craving something a little dessert-like after lunch, but a better-for-me-choice than a cookie, I like to make this Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie.

It has a natural sweetness from the almond butter and the bananas, but the creamy base features  Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk.

Almond Milk has been my preferred “milk” for several years now. I love it on a bowl of granola and it makes a great addition to smoothie recipes, like this Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie, which is quickly becoming a household favorite.

Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie

This Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie is super simple to make. Just toss the frozen banana, ice, Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, chia seeds, almond butter, and unsweetened cocoa powder in the blender and puree.  In less than 5 minutes, you have a tasty afternoon snack that you can feel good about eating.

Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie

Yield: serves 2

Prep Time: 5 minutes

This Chocolate Almond Banana Smoothie is a delicious and healthy afternoon pick me up.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium Bananas - peeled, sliced, and frozen
  • 2 tablespoons Almond Butter
  • 1 cup Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • 1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1/2 cup Ice
  • Mini Chocolate Chips, Sliced Almonds, and Sliced Bananas - optional Garnish

Directions:

Place the bananas (reserve 4 slices to garnish prepared smoothie), almond butter, Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and ice in the jar of a blender.

Puree ingredients on high speed, or on the "smoothie" setting (if available), until completely smooth.

Divide mixture between 2 cups or glasses and top with mini chocolate chips, sliced almonds, and sliced bananas for a fun garnish.

Serve immediately with a spoon.
