Homemade Limeade Recipe Ingredients

If you want to make your own limeade rather than purchasing from the grocery store, you’ll need only 3 ingredients;

  • lime juice
  • water
  • sugar

How to Make Limeade

What’s so great about this homemade limeade recipe is it’s simplicity. One batch of this easy limeade will allow you to make you several batches of Cherry Limeade Slushies.

Or, you’ll have extra which you can use for other drink recipes, to make popsicles, or just to drink!

  1. Juice the limes, set aside.
  2. Combine the sugar with 1 cup water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and let the sugar dissolve. Let cool.
  3. Combine the lime juice with the sugar water, then stir in cold water 1 cup at a time until you reach your desired flavor.

YES! If you want to make homemade lemonade, just swap out the limes and use the same amounts of lemon juice.

How to Make a Cherry Limeade Slushie

Making these homemade slushes is pretty basic – even my kids can do it – and I love that all it requires is a blender!

  1. Add the cherries, limeade and half the ice into the blender.
  2. Blend until slushy consistency is reached.
  3. Add more ice and blend again if desired.

My favorite blender of all time is the Blendtec Total Classic Original Blender with FourSide Jar. I bought mine 7 years ago and it still works amazing!

The above is simply a quick summary of this recipe. Check out the full recipe in the free printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for all the detailed instructions.

Cherry Limemade Slushie Tips

Don’t have time to make homemade limeade for this cherry limeade slushie recipe? Sometimes I don’t have time for that either!

In that case, I like to use the time saving shortcut of Simply Limeade instead of making a batch of this homemade limeade recipe.

What Fruits Can I Substitute in this Slushie Recipe

This cherry slushie recipe is my favorite recipe to use frozen cherries, but if you’re wondering “can I use fresh cherries?” the answer is yes!

I’m out of cherries! What can I substitute for cherries in this cherry limeade recipe? You can use any fruit you like as long as it goes well with lime!

We’ve tried making these slushies with other fruits.

If you need a substitute for the cherries, I recommend:

  • strawberries
  • raspberries
  • blackberries
  • blueberries
  • pineapple

Cherry was the most popular in our house, followed by raspberry and strawberry. Get creative with whatever frozen fruit you have stashed away in the freezer and see what you like best!

What I like about this recipe for Frozen Cherry Limeades

In my opinion, these Frozen Cherry Limeades are way better than sonic cherry limeade. (Sorry, Sonic!)

Real Fruit Slushies

I’m all for ordering one on occasion, but this recipe leaves me feeling just a tad bit less guilty.

Plus, I love that this homemade slushie recipe has real fruit in them instead of maraschino cherriy juice or cherry syrup flavoring. And, this recipe for cherry limeades is absolutely perfect if you want a cherry limeade recipe without soda.

Slushie Popsicles

A fun thing about this recipe for Cherry Limeade Slushes is that you can use it as a base for making fun summer popsicles.  Just pour the frozen cherry limeade mixture into your favorite popsicle molds. I like these BPA-Free Silicone Popsicle Molds

Or, for adults, you can make some fun Frozen Cherry Limeade Cocktails.

Add a total of 4 – 6 shots of vodka or tequila (depending on your personal preference!) to the blender with the rest of the ingredients to make a frozen cocktail.

Another fun option is to combine 1 shot of your preferred spirit with some lime sparkling water and a bit of this slushie for a cherry limeade spritzer.

Do not serve alcoholic beverages to anyone under the age of 21.

How many limes did you need for the 1 cup of fresh lime juice?

Thursday 23rd of May 2013

It really just depends on the size of the lime and how much juice that lime has. Some limes are drier than others.
