30+ Recipes To Make For A Cinco de Mayo Party!

Originally when I wrote this post I had 20 Cinco de Mayo recipe ideas for you, but I edited my best Cinco de Mayo recipes list to include a few more suggestions.

Cinco de Mayo Party

Every year Kevin and I say we should do this, and then May 5th sneaks up on us and of course we haven’t made any party plans.

With all the current events going on we aren’t exactly planning and social events in the near future, so it is definitely no surprise that yet again, there are no party hosting plans for us.

It’s a bummer because I always love a plate of tacos, enchiladas, guacamole, and more! And it is always fun to host a party – I can only imagine how much fun hosting a Cinco de Mayo Party would be.

So, like I do every year, I’m currently vowing that NEXT YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT!

But, while we can’t have a party with friends this year, we can still make a fun Mexican themed dinner menu to enjoy at home with the kids!

What to Make for a Cinco de Mayo Party

These Cinco de Mayo Recipes are not only some of my very favorite recipes that I’ve posted here on Good Life Eats, but they also happen to be some of the most popular recipes on the blog.

So, if (like me) you’re trying to make the best of the situation and still do something fun with your family – or maybe you’re just looking for some menu ideas for dinner – I’ve got plenty of great Cinco de Mayo recipe ideas for you here.

Cinco de Mayo Menu Planning

I think it’s safe to say we’re all fans of Mexican food in this house!

My Best Cinco de Mayo Recipes

You'll find everything you need here for your perfect Cinco de Mayo Menu. The recipes are ordered as follows: drinks, appetizers, sides, main dishes, dessert. There are plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free ideas here, too!

Cinco de Mayo Cocktails

Pineapple Margarita

Pineapple, cilantro, and lime juice infuse this Pineapple Margarita with refreshing summer flavors. Make a small batch or prepare in a pitcher for parties!

Passion Fruit Margarita

Sweet and sour from the passion fruit and lime juices and slightly smoky from the mezcal, this Passion Fruit Margarita recipe makes a unique cocktail that everyone will love.

Perfect for Cinco de Mayo, summer barbecues, and 4th of July gatherings!

Lemon Margarita

This Lemon Margarita is a simple variation on the classic. Lemon juice cuts through tequila for a tangy cocktail with extra flavor dimension from a salted rim

Strawberry Basil Margarita

Fresh strawberries, basil, and lime juice infuse this Strawberry Basil Margarita with bright summer flavors.

Peach Sangria

Peach Sangria is a delicious and summer cocktail that’s easy to make. The peach flavors combine perfectly with the Rosé for a delightful drink you are sure to enjoy!

This peach cocktail is perfect for a gathering or simply sipping on a hot day!

Piña Colada on the Rocks

Ditch the blender and make Piña Coladas on the Rocks instead. It’s the classic pineapple, coconut, and rum cocktail — just served over ice!

Mango Raspberry Sangria

This Mango Raspberry Sangria made with Rosé wine is perfect for spring and summer and a super fun drink to serve with a Mexican feast for Cinco de Mayo!

You can always mix this up with whatever fruits that you have on hand if you don't have mangoes or raspberries.

No fresh fruits available? Frozen would work fine, too.

Cinco de Mayo Mocktails

Strawberry Lime Agua Fresca

Strawberry Lime Agua Fresca is a great, fresh and fruity summertime drink! If you’re not already familiar with it, agua fresca is Spanish for “fresh waters” and is most often a blend of fruit, sugar and water, served over ice.

While agua fresca can be endlessly customized with your favorite fruits, herbs, and even edible flowers, our family fave is this simple combination of strawberry and lime.

Agua Fresca is a great alcohol-free special drink to serve on Cinco de Mayo. Kids will love this one!

Pineapple Limeade Cooler

This Pineapple Limeade Cooler is so refreshing on a hot day and tastes great with your favorite taco recipe for a Cinco de Mayo celebration!

If you prefer an adult beverage version, the pineapple limeade cooler pairs well with tequila or vodka as a spirit choice.

Strawberry Pineapple Coconut Smoothie

This Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie recipe is delicious and tropical!

The flavors of strawberry, sweet pineapple, and coconut together in this fruit smoothie make it taste a little bit like a strawberry colada – only much healthier!

Cinco de Mayo Dips

5 Minute Basic Guacamole

This 5 Minute Basic Guacamole features the delicious flavors of red onion, jalapeño, garlic, cilantro, and fresh lime juice paired with ripe, mashed avocados. Its simple and basic, but oh so delicious!

Queso Blanco with Roasted Corn, Kale, and Tomatoes

It seems like everyone loves a good, hot and cheesy queso dip with chips. I know I certainly do!

Queso Blanco with Roasted Corn, Kale, and Tomatoes with tortilla chips is a perfect appetizer to enjoy during your Cinco de Mayo party.

Easy Roasted Salsa Verde

This easy roasted salsa verde takes just a few minutes to prep once you've roasted the veggies. It is perfect for homemade green enchilada sauce, smothered burritos, or simply as a green salsa to serve with chips.

Chips and salsa are a great easy Cinco de Mayo appetizer option. And, homemade salsas are a fun way to customize your taco bar.

Restaurant Style Salsa

This Easy Restaurant Style Salsa is so good and so easy to make! Serve it alongside the Roasted Salsa Verde with plenty of tortilla chips for red and green salsa choices.

Make extra of both salsas, because these make a great gift to send home with guests packaged in glass jars.

Tomato Mango Salsa

This Fresh Tomato Mango Salsa is a great way to enjoy a sweeter twist on a classic chunky fresh salsa. Serve this recipe for mango salsa with tomato as an appetizer or snack with tortilla chips or try one of the fun main dish serving suggestions I'm sharing in the post.

Roasted Tomatillo Guacamole

I decided to combine two of my favorite things. Guacamole and Salsa Verde. For a richer flavor in the salsa verde recipe, I decided to roast the tomatillos and poblano that went into the salsa verde.

Cinco de Mayo Soups

Chicken Tortilla Soup

This Homemade Chicken Tortilla Soup is warm and spicy. Plus, you likely have all the ingredients on hand!

A quick and easy dinner for cold nights! It has hearty black beans, sweet corn, tender chicken, and a little kick of heat topped off with homemade tortilla strips for that extra crunch.

The whole family will love it! Make sure you check out the recipe variations and instructions for preparing it in the slow cooker or Instant Pot!

Chicken and White Bean Chile Verde with Cilantro-Lime Pesto

This White Bean Chicken Chile Verde is easily going to be one of our favorite soup recipes from this season.

Served with a side of whole-grain with flax tortilla chips that I found at the grocery store and topped with some diced avocado it was a filling and satisfying meal.

Cinco de Mayo Side Dishes

Tomato Avocado Corn Salad

Take advantage of summer corn and tomatoes by making this Avocado Corn Salad. It’s brightly colored and full of great flavor, not to mention easy to make!

This summer salad is simple enough for every day but has a pretty enough presentation that makes it great for entertaining. It is perfect for snacking with chips, or for adding on top of tacos, fajitas, grilled meats or a Mexican salad.

Mango Salsa with Grilled Corn and Blistered Red Peppers

In this recipe for Mango Salsa with Grilled Corn and Blistered Red Peppers, juicy mango pairs well with grilled corn and blistered red bell peppers for a sweet and savory summertime salsa.

You'll like it on a taco, carnitas, or just scooped up with a big chip.

Strawberry Mango Fruit Salsa

In this strawberry mango salsa, the juicy strawberries and mangos pair really well with the heat of the jalapeño, hint of lime, onion and cilantro.

This fruit salsa is so good served with cinnamon chips for scooping. It also tastes great served with Tres Leches Cake, cheesecake, or vanilla ice cream if you're looking for a special dessert idea.

Cilantro Lime Broccoli Slaw

This Cilantro Lime Broccoli Slaw is  a tasty side dish to accompany any Mexican inspired meal. Pre-packaged shredded broccoli, carrots, red cabbage are tossed with jalapeño, lime, red onion, and red bell pepper for a refreshing side salad.

Cilantro Lime Broccoli Slaw is also great served in a tortilla piled over your taco meat and will make a great addition to any Cinco de Mayo taco bar.

Cilantro Lime Kale Slaw

Kale, purple cabbage, carrot, and red bell pepper are tossed with a jalapeño lime vinaigrette for a healthy Mexican inspired Cilantro Lime Kale Slaw.

I love to serve this as a side salad or as a slaw to pile on to my tacos.

Roasted Poblano Cilantro Quinoa

I like to think of this Roasted Poblano Cilantro Quinoa as a healthier alternative to cilantro rice. It has so much flavor and is a great side dish for any Mexican meal but also works well as the base of a main dish, like a taco bowl.

Easy Black Bean Salad

This easy black bean salad is packed with corn, tomatoes, cucumber, and more! It’s tossed with a lime-cumin dressing that’s full of flavor!

Cinco de Mayo Main Dishes

Easy Baked Wonton Chicken Taquitos

You’ll be amazed at how easy these Baked Wonton Chicken Taquitos are. They’re perfect for a quick and tasty weeknight meal or for an appetizer as part of a Cinco de Mayo Celebration.

Change them up with different filling options - I have plenty of ideas in the post - and use different salsas for a variety of flavors. We love to serve these taquitos with plenty of guacamole for dipping.

Shredded Tex-Mex Crock-Pot Chicken

Crock Pot Mexican Chicken is the perfect shredded chicken recipe for your next Mexican recipe. Packed with flavor and super tender thanks to hours in the crock pot, this recipe is sure to please!

I always use this chicken as the filling for my chicken enchilada recipes. It freezes well and is worth making an extra large batch!

Chicken Enchiladas with Homemade Chile Gravy Enchilada Sauce

Chicken Enchiladas with Homemade Chile Gravy Enchilada Sauce is a classic Tex-Mex dish from my childhood.

Corn tortillas are stuffed with shredded chicken and smothered in a rich, chile gravy sauce before baked up to perfection with a gooey cheese topping.

Chicken, Black Bean, and Spinach Enchiladas with Tomatillo Enchilada Sauce

Corn tortillas are filled with tender, shredded chicken, black beans, and fresh spinach. Then, smothered in two contrasting sauces for one amazing Chicken Enchilada recipe.

Instead of traditional salsa, fresh, sweet summer corn is grilled until charred and combined with tomatoes, jalapeño, onion, and cilantro.

Gluten-Free Cinco de Mayo Main Dishes

Shredded Beef, Black Bean and Quinoa Stuffed Poblanos

These Shredded Beef, Black Bean and Quinoa Stuffed Poblanos are a healthier take on Chile Rellanos.

The poblanos are roasted instead of friend, and they are stuffed with a mixture of Mexican shredded beef, quinoa, black beans, and corn.
